Basic Search: Help
To begin searching, type your search terms in the text box,
then select from the following search types:
- Keyword Anywhere
A Keyword Anywhere search looks for words located anywhere in
a record. For example, a keyword search on the word computers
would return all of the items that contain the word computers
in the title, author, subject heading, table of contents, or
even the publisher field. A Keyword Anywhere search will search
for anything you enter, so try not to use common words like
'the, a, and, or,etc.'
-
- The word OR is assumed when more than one word is entered
into a keyword anywhere search. The search:
-
-
digital library development
-
-
is interpreted as:
-
-
digital OR library OR development
- Use + to mark essential terms: +syracuse
- Use quotes to search phrases "natural language processing"
- Use ! to exclude terms: state !pennsylvania
- Use ? to find variant endings: politic? finds political,
politics, politician, etc.
- Do not use Boolean operators: and, or, not
If you wish to use the logical operators 'AND' and 'OR' to combine
search terms, try a Keywords Combined search
instead.
- Keywords Combined
(formerly Boolean (AND, OR, NOT)
)
Keywords Combined is a type of keyword searching that allows
you to combine search terms using the Boolean operators and/or/not.
To perform a Keywords Combined
search:
1.) Type in your search terms using AND, OR, NOT where appropriate.
Use " " (double quotes) around phrases and use parenthesis
to group terms in complex searches. For example, to find information
about writing on the Internet, you might type:
(internet or "world wide web") and (writing or publishing)
Use ? to find variant endings: politic? finds political, politics,
politician, etc.
