The symbol indicates you can learn more about a subject heading by clicking on it.

There may be other subject headings that are considered preferred terminology for your topic. There may be other headings - broader or narrower in scope - that contain items related to your search. For example, the subject heading Mass Media has references to numerous related, more focused headings as shown below. If you click on a new heading, you will go to the title list for that heading.

The "Note" field provides further clarification information about the materials associated with a particular subject heading.
